General Lifeguard Certification Information
You will be taught the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to and provide care for aquatic, breathing, and cardiac emergencies. You will also be taught the necessary skills to care for injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives.
Once you preregister for the course, you will be emailed a link that will take you to the online portion of the class. Expect this to take around eight hours to complete. You will need to provide a course completion certificate at the beginning of your Lifeguarding course in order to continue. Please bring a swim suit, towel, plenty of water and snacks for the day.
Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
Become a certified lifeguard! Gain the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, respond to and prevent aquatic and land emergencies until EMS can take over. This is a blended learning course, so early registration is needed in order to complete the online coursework before classes begin. Expect the online course to take 8-10 hours. Cost includes a pocket mask and hands-on training/certification. You must register at Sammons Indoor Pool at least seven days before class begins. For more information, call 254.298.5930.

The location for the course will vary.
Registration can be completed at Sammons Indoor Pool at 2220 W. Avenue D.
Pre-requisites
1. You must be able to swim 300yds, nonstop, only using the front-crawl and the breast-stroke. (Goggles are suggested for this part)
2. You must be able to swim 20yds, dive 10-12ft to retrieve a 10lb brick, and swim 20yds back holding the brick with both hands in 1:40 without goggles.
3. You must be able to tread water for 2 minutes, legs only with your arms in your armpits or out of the water.
4. You need to have a valid, working email account with access to the internet in order to complete the Blended Learning portion of the class.
Cost
The cost is $50 for participants that have a current lifeguard application submitted with the City of Temple.
The cost is $199 for the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
