Master List of Archival Collections – Local History Major Collections

  • Dienst, Alexander Collection – This collection contains over 2,000 records related to the history of Bell County (1860s to 1930s). Dr. Alexander Dienst, Jr. was born in St. Louis, MO in 1870. He moved to Temple circa 1890 where he established himself as a dentist. Dr. Dienst was an avid collector of local and state history, and served as president of the Texas Historical Commission from 1932 to 1935. Dienst died in his home in Temple on May 6, 1938.
  • Kelsey, Mike and Nancy Collection – This collection contains thousands of records and photographs related to the history of Bell and surrounding counties (1870s to Present).
  • Howard, Durward Collection – This collection contains thousands of photographs of the Temple High School Band, scrapbooks, record albums and marching diagrams. Mr. Howard served as the Temple High School Band Director from 1947 to 1984.
  • Railroad Collections
    • Santa Fe Depot Collection – ATSF drawings identifying railroad property, local businesses, etc.
    • Springer Collection – History, Geological Survey Maps, railroad history, etc.
    • Childers Collection – Aperture Cards (ATSF station plats, city maps, etc.)
    • Crump/Priest Collection – History and ATSF valuation photographs of Bell County homes and businesses in the 1920s.
  • General Collection – The General Collection is made up of smaller collections and includes the following:
