Black History Month Essay Contest Information

The Wilson Park Recreation Center is pleased to hold a city-wide African American History Month Essay Contest. This contest is intended to encourage youth to gain insight into African American history and learn about individual people who helped shape history. It is meant to challenge youth to think about the causes and effects of social justice and be intentional about learning African American history in Temple, Texas.
Temple youth in grades 6 - 12 are invited to enter this contest and may submit one (1) entry per student. All contest entries must be accompanied by a clearly-written, official entry form, completed in its entirety. Submissions are not considered without a completed entry form.

Contest Theme:
“Celebrating Untold Stories and Contributions of African Americans!” Current and former Temple African Americans have played an important role in social justice. African Americans understood their contributions to society sometimes went unnoticed, but their persistence is continuing to earn them respect and a seat at the table.
